119 on board passengers of Max air escape crash in Yola
Max Air Boeing 737, with registration 5N-ADB and 119 passengers and six crew members on board, lost four tyres while taking off at the Yola airport on Sunday.
The Abuja bound aircraft’s rear gear tyres first bursted, and the remaining two tyres followed suit during the taxing off process on the runway.
In a statement by Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), she stated that on Sunday evening, a Max Air’s flight NGL1649, a Boeing 737 with registration 5N-ADB, carrying 119 passengers and six crew members, was cleared for takeoff from Yola Airport en route to Abuja.
“Fortunately, no injuries were reported. A go-team, led by Alex Badeh, the NSIB Director General will visit the incident site tomorrow morning to conduct an investigation,” she added.
This is the 3rd time Max Air has been in the news in the last few Years.
Recall that a Similar incidence happened on Sunday May 7 2023,when Max Air caring 143 passengers reportedly crash-landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja
The incident occurred after the plane’s tyre burst into flames, and it took the intervention of the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire-fighting Service (ARFFS) at the airport to put out the fire while the passengers were safely disembarked from the plane.
A report by the NSIB had accused the airline of overwriting the Cockpit Voice Recorder of the serious incident that occurred on May 7, 2023, on landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Also, in 2021 many air passengers, including the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero, escaped death as a Kano-Abuja bound Max Air plane with registration number VM1645 developed engine failure, 10 minutes after take-off from the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, MAKIA.
