18 Governorship Candidates visit Rivers governor in Port Harcourt; ‘No need to panic’, Wike tells Supporters
At least 18 governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party in next year’s elections have met with Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike in a new attempt to resolve the impasse in the party.
The candidates arrived at the private home of the Rivers governor in Port Harcourt, the state capital, at 8 pm on Tuesday night for a closed-door meeting that lasted till about 11 pm.
The candidates in attendance include Kaduna, Plateau, Katsina, Nasarawa, Kebbi, Benue, Sokoto, Jigawa, Borneo, and Yobe.
Others are, Kwara, Kanu, Lagos, Niger, Ogun, Cross River, Delta, and Rivers.
After the meeting, the Chairman of the PDP Governorship Candidates Forum and Governorship Candidate of Kaduna State, Isa Ashiru, expressed optimism that the discussions with Wike will go a long way in resolving the internal crisis.
He said their next line of action is to meet with the National Working Committee of the party.
Meanwhile, the internal wrangling within the People’s Democratic Party has heightened, even as the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has stressed that he can’t be killed, no matter the intimidation and the threats.
Wike also accused PDP bigwigs of striking a deal with President Muhammadu Buhari to win his re-election in 2019, adding that Rivers State has contributed the most, to the successes of the PDP since 1999 but has not benefited anything from her dedication to the party.
