2023 C’ River Governorship Race: Female aspirant wants equity and inclusion in governance

Nigerian former Ambassador to Ethiopia and one-time member of the lower chamber of the National Assembly Hon. Nkoyo Esu Toyo has called for the participation of more women in politics to actualize the 35% affirmation action for women.

She made the remark in a chat with LENS Reporter in Calabar on Sunday saying she has the experience to recover, reset and reposition Cross River State as the first woman to declare the intention to challenge other aspirants in the male-dominated political arena in 2023 guber race under the umbrella party, PDP.

The former representative of Calabar Odukpani Federal constituency strongly harped on the implementation of the National gender policy formulated to promote 35 percent involvement of women in all positions of government.

In addition, she explained that sustainability, critical infrastructure, human capital development, economic growth and security sum up the pillars of her campaign for 2023.

She used the occasion to berate those segregating against her because of marriage referring to them as ‘village antagonists’ who are jealous of her international pedigree and disposition in politics as well as service to Cross River State and Nigeria.

Ambassador Toyo is a development consultant with a specialty in human rights and gender equity. She is also the founder of Gender and Development Action (GADA) Nigeria, a civil rights advocacy group.

Meanwhile, the Southern Senatorial District stakeholders have appealed to the Central and North Senatorial zones to support the Southern agenda at a press briefing held in the Diamond Hall of Transcorp Hotels Calabar on Saturday 12 led by Chief Asuquo Ekpenyong and Senator Florence Ita Giwa to finetune path for a Southern candidate to emerge governor in 2023.
