2023 Calabar Carnival is Africa’s tourism flagship event

One of Nigeria’s cultural street party showpiece, Calabar Carnival will be beamed live to over 40 countries in the African continent and other continents in the world.

Cross River Carnival Commission has announced that 10 countries and more than 20 states of the Nigeria federation are to attend this year’s carnival including new attendees and re-introduction of aqua events – the boat regatta. according to Governor Bassey Otu.

The carnival week is the final and highpoint of Calabar Carnival when most of the displays take place and draws a huge caravan of tourists who witnessed some of the popular events like Children carnival, Cultural carnival, Bikers parade, Miss Africa Beauty pageant in the evening of December, 27th 2023 as well as Calabar street parade and band of the year competition on December, 28th 2023.

Other programmes scheduled are ‘wonders on wheels’ scheduled to take place in the evening at the Calabar stadium and displays of vintage cars. Green Carnival according to the schedule takes place in the morning and displays actions favourable for the environment that culminates in a street party to be held in the evening of 30th December, 2023 along Marian road and New Year Eve Fire Works display on 31st December, 2023.

The Calabar Carnival parade is quite a spectacle scheduled to feature 50,000 costumed revelers who are to perform in five major carnival bands and 10 non-competing bands. The parade according to Cross River Carnival Commission, would witness the carnival groups compete against each other in expectation of winning the title for the Best Band covering over 12km parade routes.

Carnival Calabar is a fun filled event with colour, pump and pageantry spiced with DJs artistry, live musicians, steel bands incredible floats and large crowd of ecstatic fun seekers line the carnival routes to watch the parade during the 32 days of fun.
