2023: Calabar residents adopt SDP State House of Assembly candidate

Landlords to Nigeria Navy Reference Hospital in Ikot Abasi Obori Community in Calabar Municipal Council of Cross River State and residents have unanimously adopted the Social Democratic Party Candidate for Calabar Municipal State Constituency in the 2023 House of Assembly elections.

In a communique signed by Heads of Akwa Ibom State, Igbo, and Central/Northern Cross River as well as other ethnic groups resident in the area and read by Thomas Essien hinged their support for the candidature of Francis Efanga Edet on the leadership contribution of late Chief Efanga Edet to peaceful coexistence among ethnic nationalities in the country.

Late Chief Efanga Edet aka “AGOGO” the father to the candidate was a PDP party stalwart who attracted development to the community and saw to the actualization of lofty dreams and aspirations of strangers in the area.

In his contribution at the meeting on Friday, December 2022, a youth leader Comrade Mike Ogban said since the incumbent Rt. Hon. Efa Esua, a member representing Calabar Municipal State Constituency in the House of Assembly is from Qua and also seeking a third term, and the incumbent member representing the Odukpani/Calabar Municipal Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Etta Mbora in the National Assembly is from Akim also in Qua, it is needful for Mr. Francis Efanga from a different community to represent the people of Calabar Municipal Council State Constituency in the State House of Assembly as a break from the old order.

And commenting on the development, Hon. David Nsemo, a former Vice-Chairman of Calabar Municipal Council said that there is nothing wrong in Mr. Francis Efanga ambition as he is to test his mettle in the political arena with the All Progressives Congress State House of Assembly candidate, Mr. Stanley Boyce Nsemo from Ikot Ishie Clan, also a non-Qua indigene in Calabar Municipal Council Area.

The duo of Nsemo and Efanga are challenging Esua who is the incumbent member representing Calabar Municipal state constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly.

However, since the APC candidate for Calabar Municipal/Odukpani Federal Constituency is also a Quo-indigene, Ntufam Edim Inok, it is necessary that somebody from another tribe in the Calabar Municipal Council Area represent the people in the state House of Assembly according to residents who have called for equity and fair-play in the polity to strike a balance.
