2023 Elections: Owan Enoh withdraws from governorship race, Usani joins PRP

A frontline aspirant for the office of the governor in the 2023 Cross River general elections under the platform of the All Progressive Congress and former member of the National Assembly representing the Central Senatorial District has backtracked by withdrawing from the race at a meeting with stakeholders in Calabar, Cross River State.

Senator Enoh stated on Thursday that his decision to suspend the campaign for the governorship of the state is based on reflection and consultation to support the consensus arrangement of his great party in the firm belief in the supremacy of the party and support for the leadership of the party under Governor Ben Ayade.

He added that he believes in the ability of the consensus candidate Senator Prince Bassey Otu having associated with him over the years to win elections due to his political sagacity and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.

Also in the latest development, Pastor Usani Usani a chieftain of APC in the state has dumped APC and joined the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) upon which he intends to fulfill his dream to contest the 2023 governorship elections. Pastor Usani who was the former Minister of the Niger Delta ministry said his decision is due to the shrinking democratic space.

It would be recalled that the 61-year-old pioneer member of the APC in Cross River State has already contested for the governorship thrice in 2003, 2011, and 2019.

Meanwhile, a political analyst has seen the sudden drama in APC as a ploy to stab a popular opposition aspirant in the back as Senator Owan Enoh hails from Etung Local Government Area where the other party aspirants come from.

With the situation on the ground, the youth political group for Prince Otu known as FUSION 196 in all political wards in 18 Council Areas of the State has commended Governor Ben Ayade for keeping to his promise to hand over power to the Southern Senatorial District in 2023 with Senator Owan Enoh as Deputy Governor.
