2023 General Elections: Female candidate emerges deputy to PDP governorship flagbearer in Cross River
The Peoples’ Democratic Party in Cross River State has announced a female candidate, Mrs. Emana Duke Ambrose-Amawhe to run on a joint ticket with Senator Sandy Onor the governorship candidate for the 2023 Elections.
The event which took place on Monday, July 4, 2022, at the Party’s State Secretariat along Mary Slessor Avenue in Calabar was performed by the PDP State Chairman, Barrister Venatius Ikem.
In his remarks, Senator Onor said you can’t effectively mobilize the populace without the support of women, stressing that since Mrs. Cecilia Ekpenyong had a short stint as the first female deputy governor in Cross River State 30 years ago, women have not been carried along again in politics.
It would be recalled that some PDP youths from Calabar South, Akpabuyo, and Bakassi Local Government Areas in the Federal Constituency had protested against this move to nominate Emana Ambrose-Amawhe as the running mate of Senator Sandy Onor because according to them, she is not popular to drive the numbers that would guarantee the party a place at the government house.
