2023: Monarchs endorse Back-to-South Movement
The Back-to-South Movement agitation for power shift back to the Southern Senatorial district of Cross River State in Nigeria has received a boost with the endorsement of the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2023 elections Senator (Prince) Bassey Otu by the Obong of Calabar, and head of the Efik Nation, Abasi-O tu V’ on Wednesday in his Palace.
The Treaty King made the endorsement while receiving the APC governorship Flag bearer in Calabar. He thanked Governor Ben Ayade for keeping to his word to hand over power to the South and in the person of Prince Otu, a son of the domain.
And in a similar move, the Ndidem of the Quas, HRM Ndidem Eta Bassey Eteta III endorsed Senator Prince Bassey Otu and showered royal blessing on him and his wife during their courtesy visit to his palace where he promised as well to mobilize his subjects to ensure Prince Otu emerges as governor in 2023 post general elections.
Speaking on condition of anonymity during the visit, a Senior citizen and astute politician wondered why the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike who is at logger-head with the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party Alhaji Atiku Abubakar over the issue of political balancing is supporting his Party candidate from Central Senatorial District in Cross River for the 2023 governorship elections which are against the Back-to-South principle in the power rotation equation in the state.
He however urged him to trade with caution as those who live in glass houses don’t throw stones.
