2023: Nigerians are tired, Peter Obi is the best of the 18 presidential candidates_Yesufu

An activist and campaigner Aisha Yesufu has singled out the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi as the best of the 18 presidential candidates cleared by INEC.

She made this remark Saturday as a guest on ARISE television where she also bore her mind on the political scene in Nigeria overlooking 2023.

“Peter Obi is my candidate. I weigh all the candidates and he came out top,” she said, harping her choice on good governance and accountability. She explained that the criteria for someone seeking public office are empathy, competence, and prudence to manage the cost of governance.

Yesufu who said she is not a member of any party said that beyond young people, Nigerians are tired of bad governance and now want to be the determinant of those who get into political offices.

She said the youths have realized that they have to translate their energy from social media to the ballot box which is what was witnessed in the high momentum during the registration exercise for PVC. ‘The youths are actually putting in the work’, she affirmed.

According to her ” one of the things a lot of people don’t realise is that a lot of awakening had happened during the #EndSARRS protest and the lesson learned from the massacre that took place on 20th October 2020.

She describes the event as emancipation which prepared the minds of the citizens, especially the young people who have been oppressed to become more focussed on politics.

Nigerians she said are tired of bad government. ” See the exponential growth of registrants with INEC for PVC. Citizens know their votes will count and so are determined to decide who gets into public offices. She said there are a lot of Nigerians who before now had stayed away from the political process because they did not believe in the political process as well as the kind of candidates that were thrown up.

The founder of the NGO Citizen Help said Peter Obi coming into the race is a game changer as a lot of these huge number of voters with PVC who never use them will now see the need to participate.

On Peter Obi’s chances which she said is the number one of the pack, she argued that harvesting these huge numbers of reluctant voters and the young people who seeing that Peter Obi is on the ballot have registered to vote will guarantee his winning the race.
