‘This year’s commemoration is a powerful reminder of the pivotal role young people play in advancing sustainable development, not only through global advocacy, but, more importantly, through tangible, transformative actions within their local communities.
‘It is a clarion call for all of us to recognize, support and empower young people as changemakers and frontliners in building a more inclusive, just and equitable society.
‘At the NUJ, we remain firmly committed to creating and promoting platforms that amplify youth voices, particularly in the media space.
‘Young journalists, reporters, and communicators continue to be key drivers of social change, harnessing the power of ethical storytelling, investigative reporting, and community-based journalism to spotlight developmental challenges and hold leaders accountable.
‘In line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), our leadership is investing in mentorship, training, and capacity-building initiatives tailored to young media practitioners.
‘We are also forging strategic partnerships with youth organizations, civil society and academic institutions to promote grassroots media participation and strengthen the role of local storytelling in driving sustainable outcomes.
‘Whether in tackling climate change, promoting health and education, or advancing peacebuilding, we believe young people must be equipped and empowered to lead.
‘As we celebrate this significant occasion, I call on all stakeholders, government, private sector, civil society, and the media to not only honour our youth but also provide them with the resources, opportunities, and platforms they need to thrive.
‘Under my leadership, the NUJ Akwa Ibom State Council remains resolute in promoting responsible journalism, empowering young people, and advancing the ideals of the SDGs through local action.
