Akwa Ibom State governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel is grieved over the incessant killings of security personnel in the country especially from the Police and has commiserated with the Nigerian Police Force over the loss of its men.
The statement was released Friday to newsmen in Uyo, the state capital.
The speech sent to the Inspector General of Police through the state Police Commissioner and signed by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Emembong, the governor specifically mourned the officers who lost their lives during the security breach in Essien Udim council of the State.
“The gallantry and patriotism of those men who died in combat, are deeply appreciated by the government and good people of Akwa Ibom State. Accepting to pay the supreme sacrifice to restore law and order is the greatest act of loyalty to the country and the Force.
“To the glory of God, the criminal elements have been neutralised, their unwholesome activities thwarted and absolute tranquillity has returned to the troubled area. The conquest of evil and return of normalcy, to my mind, is the most befitting condolence message to the Force and families of the fallen officers, because it adds a note of positivity to their already very painful death.” The statement read in part.
Udom assured the IGP and the state command that the State Government would take steps to cushion the effect of the demise of the officers on their families and commended the gallantry efforts of the security and intelligence community in the state for leaving nothing to chance in the eradication of criminals thereby restoring peace to Essien Udim.
He further promised to continually support the Police and other security agencies in the state in the discharge of their duties.
Meanwhile, the Police Command in the state has reported another successful operation by its Anti-kidnapping unit as a three man gang involved in sea piracy has been napped and the ransom paid recovered from them.
In a statement by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Amiengheme Andrew, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer Mr Odiko Macdon and made available to Journalists in Uyo, one million, one hundred and twenty thousand Naira was recovered from the three crooks.
“The resilience of the Command has yet again paid off as the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command have busted another kidnapping syndicate. On18th March, 2021 at about 10am, one Blessing Gift Ekpo ‘f’, 30yrs old of Ukana Ikot Akpantea village, Essien Udim L.G.A, a resident of Molyko-Buea, Republic of Cameroon was kidnapped on her way to Oron by Armed Sea Pirates.
“A painstaking investigation led to the arrest of one Ezekiel Ogbodiye ‘m’, 33yrs of age, of Asamabiri village, Salga in Yenagoa, who collected the ransom, John Benimo ‘m’, 40yrs of age, of Okubebie, Salga, both in Bayelsa State, and Christian Bassey ‘m’, 21yrs of age of Ibiono Ibom L.G.A, a resident of Akpan Ikang Itak Edak fishing port, Oron L.G.A, who was the ransom negotiator. The sum of one million, two hundred and fifty thousand naira (N1, 250,000.00) was recovered from them. suspects will be charged to court”.
The statement further explained that one escapee from the Nigerian Correctional Service in Imo state was in the Command’s net and would be sent back to Imo state to complete his jail term.
“Similarly, on 6/4/2021, personnel of Ikot Udota Division, relying on credible intelligence, apprehended one David Victor Ubong ‘m’ of Ibaka, Mbo L.G.A. Suspect confessed to be one of the inmates who escaped from the Nigerian Correctional Service in the recent jail break at Owerri, Imo State on 5/4/2021. Until his conviction, the suspect was a resident of Obinze in Owerri, Imo State. Suspect will be sent back to face his jail term.
“On the security situation in Essien Udim L.G.A, the CP wish to inform the good people of Akwa Ibom State that successes have been recorded and that a mop up security operation is still ongoing in the affected area. Residents and environs are to remain calm and be security conscious as Security Agencies will continue to do their best to restore peace, law and order in the affected area and around the State”.
