The youths of Ikot Abasi local government council of Akwa Ibom state, have commended President Muhammadu Buhari, for sitting a Federal University of Science and Technology in their area, noting that such would bring about development and gainful employment to the people.
In a thank you rally organized under the auspices of South-South Assembly of Nigeria, Eket Senatorial District at the the council headquarters yesterday, the leader of the group, Comrade John Ayang, describe the generosity of Mr. President as magnanimous adding that the ‘gift’ came at the right time to the state and the council area.
The appreciation march which saw many youths and elders from the area marching through major streets , the people opined that the Federal government had always shown love to the area as it has already approved the sitting of a Liberty Oil and Gas Free Zone and a proposed fertilizer blending company in the area.
Ply-cards of different inscriptions- “Thank you President Buhari for honouring us with a university, Thank you Mr. President for giving hope to Ikot Abasi people, Our dear Governor Udom Emmanuel thank you for supporting the sitting of FUTIA in Ikot Abasi, Our political leaders and good citizens, thank you for supporting the sitting of FUTIA in Ikot Abasi”, the youths said coming of the institution to their area was a blessing.
“Mr. President, let us also use this medium to thank you again for the liberty Oil and Gas Free zone, which also has Ikot Abasi as the host community and also the proposed Fertilizer blending company”.
Ayang further noted, “It is indeed, a thing of joy that the colonial city of Ikot Abasi, has been remembered and suitable to host a prospective world class higher institution, where science and technology will be taught and practiced”.
He appealed to the federal government to revisit the issue of the Aluminum Smelting Company of Nigeria [ALSCON] which he said would complement the new university in terms of knowledge sharing and alsoboost the economy of our country.
Other youth leaders from the council area in their solidarity speeches commended the Federal government for the kind gesture and also stakeholders from the area such as Senator Udoma Udodoma for their roles in ensuring that, life touching infrastructure are brought to the area.
“As a matter of fact, I want to thank other Stakeholders, I will not fail to mention the distinguish Senator Udoma Udoudoma. He is really a figure that will be celebrated till eternity. We have other people who have influenced the process of the university. I don’t want to mention names because there are lots of people but I will pay Homage to my local government Chairman in the person of Mr. Joe Affia for his support.
“History has made us to understand that the amalgamation of Nigeria was signed here. This university is something that has long been denied but we are happy that we are alive today to witness it”, they reasoned.
