A resident of Ekorinim-I flood disaster community sent SOS to Cross River SEMA
A resident of Prof. Ene-Obong Crescent in Ekorinim-I, Calabar Municipal Council Area, Cross River State, Mr. Frank Edet has appealed to the Director General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Rev. James Anam to come to his rescue and that of the community to cushion the impact of the damage done to his property by the collapsed retaining wall in the vicinity on Saturday, September 7, 2024.
This is as even residents of Calabar metropolis continue to suffer ecological mishaps already forecasted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMeT) in its 2024 seasonal climate prediction (SCP). The released projection revealed that there would be five-day serial rainfall estimated to cause flooding in 21 states and 123 locations in the country.
Mr. Edet while fielding questions from newsmen at the scene of the incidence, said the heavy down pour of Thursday September 5th 2024 with flood gusting out from the Cross River State House of Assembly quarters in Ekorinim-I, forced the wall to collapse thereby causing colossal damage to the foundation of his building.
It would be recalled that caretaker of the estate, Mr. Dickson Kanu Obo had earlier petitioned the state commissioner for environment, Hon. Moses Osogi over flooding in his premises that warranted his direction to the Director of Floods in the Ministry, Engr. Greg Undie who ordered a blockade to be dismantled to allow free flow of water to checkmate the flooding and prevent future occurrences in the area.
