About 40 youths to benefit from oil and gas training in A ‘Ibom
No fewer than 40 youths drawn from the 31 local government council of Akwa Ibom State are currently undergoing various skill acquisition training in Oil oil and Gas.
The training is being facilitated by the State Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Akan Okon.
The various professional skills training include: Industrial Scaffolding, Safety and Security, Oilfield Rigging and HSE level 1,2 and 3.
Speaking during the official flag-off of the training yesterday in Uyo, he noted that the training was in line with the completion agenda of the State Governor, Udom Emmanuel who was passionate about providing employment opportunities to the youths of the State.
“His belief is that our young men and women should acquire the necessary skills, and that is why he is not sparing any expenditure in ensuring that he provides a conducive environment for our youths to be trained”.
“Right now, we have functioning industries that are providing opportunities for our young men and women. Ibom Deep Seaport is one of those projects that would change the narrative of the state and provide employment opportunities not only for Akwa Ibom sons and daughters, but to other Nigerians all over the Country.
The Governor has done so well, maybe before this year runs out, final approval for the commencement of the project would be given.
“The programme comes at a time we need more skilled-man-power in various sectors of our economy. In every profession or trade, there are needed skills required,” he said.
He urged the trainees to take the programme seriously by taking maximum advantage of the opportunities offered them.
Earlier, the lead instructor from VIMAL Integrated Services, praised the effort of the commissioner and promised to deliver effective training to the trainees.
According to him, for the Commissioner to facilitate the training of the youths is a proved that there are still people in the country who have the interest of the youths at heart.
“We specialize in training people in various fields of construction and oil field operations. We are training the youths in areas of Oil Rigging, Scaffolding, Safety and Security”. He appealed to the Commissioner not to relent, but continue in sponsoring the youths to acquire the necessary skills. He also extended the plea to the State Governor, Udom Emmanuel and other highly placed individuals and organizations.
Other dignitaries in attendance at the opening ceremony of the exercise were the Honorary Special Adviser to Akwa Ibom State Governor on Grassroots Mobilization, Otuekong (Elder) Enefiok Ekefre and the CEO of Prince Ken Electronics amongst others.
