Adamawa Rerun: Binani seeks judicial review of declaration as Governor- Elect; PDP issues 72 hours ultimatum to INEC to resume collation
Candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Senator Aisha Binani has filed an ex parte motion before the federal high court Abuja seeking the leave of the court for a judicial review of the administrative decision of INEC on 16th April, in respect to her declaration as winner of the Adamawa state governorship election.
The senator is also praying for an order of the court prohibiting INEC and its agents from taking any steps toward the declaration of the winner of the election pending the determination of her application for judicial review.
Senator Binani through her lawyer Hussaini Zakariyau says a judicial review exists to enable the superior court checkmate the actions and decisions of legislative and administrative arm of government.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party in Adamawa State has called for completion of the ongoing supplementary election process in the state.
The party’s Governorship campaign Organisation in a protest to INEC headquarters in Yola issued 72 hours ultimatum to the umpire to complete the last Saturday exercise.
They came out in their numbers to air their views in a peaceful protest at the INEC office in Yola.
They want INEC to douse tension in the state by completing the electoral process, believing it will usher in popular candidate.
The international election observers who monitored the exercise shared same views.
Again, PDP also demanded the removal of the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner for partisanship.
The PDP has demanded the arrest of the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Adamawa State, Hudu Yunusa Ari.
In a statement on Sunday by its spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, the party said the declaration of Aisha Binani as winner of the Governorship election while the collation was ongoing, is illegal.
He stated that such move is seen as usurping the duties and powers of the Returning Officer, Prof Mohammed Mele.
The opposition party also called on the “people of Adamawa State, Nigerians and the International Community to disregard the purported declaration of the defeated candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aisha Binani as winner of the Adamawa State Governorship election.”
