A’Ibom NUJ commends Umo Eno for inaugurating bulk purchase board, others

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State council has commended the state Governor Pastor Umo Eno on the inauguration of the Bulk Purchasing Agency Board and provision of free food for the elderly and vulnerable in the society.

This is contained in an eight paragraph communique The communique signed by Amos Etuk State Chairman, Comrade Dominic Akpan State Secretary, Comrade Idiongo Akpanuko Chairman,Communique Drafting Committee and others issued at the end of the council’s March Congress held at it’s Secretariat on Information Drive, Uyo

The Congress also appreciated the State Governor for the award of contracts and flag-off of construction of various road networks in the State, especially the Ring road three and Ekit Itam Akpanabong-Mbiaya road. They urged contractors to work towards meeting the delivery deadline.

They appealed to the State Government to link up Ikpanya community with neighbouring villages in Ibiono Ibom, Ikono and Ini Local Government Areas with motorable roads.

Congress unveiled the 2024 World Press Freedom Day logo with the theme, A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the Face of Environmental Crisis and a Sub – Theme, Navigating Press Freedom Through Unity in Cultural Diversity.

It lauded the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Akwa Ibom State Chapter for a successful celebration of the International Women’s Day.

Again, Congress appealed to the State Government to consider the plight of the widow and children of the slain Police officer on Oron road in December 2023, Mr.ThankGod Edet Bassey.

Congress reiterated the need for the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Commission (EARCOM) to step up sensitization campaign against cultism and truancy in secondary schools in the State. Congress urged security agencies to collaborate with the Ministry of Education and the Local Education Committee to address the situation.

The Union commiserated with the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ini Ememobong on the demise of his Father in Law.
