A’Ibom YPP governorship flagbearer surrenders ticket to OBA; party receives state and national assembly members from PDP, others

Senator Bassey Albert Akpan was officially received into the YPP on Saturday by the national leadership of the party led by comrade Bishop E. Amakiri, held at the recreational complex in Ifa Ikot Akpan in the Uyo council area of Akwa Ibom state.

“I picked the form of the party to serve the people but having seen a younger and more vibrant politician who is hungrier to serve, I tendered my resignation a few days ago to pave way for OBA to step in.

“Just as OBA stepped down for someone years back willingly, I stepped down for Senator OBA because it is his time to be governor”, he said.

Senator Albert told the massive crowd that witnessed his official change of baton from PDP to YPP that he was willingly offering himself as an aspirant in the upcoming primaries for substitution, following Andy’s announcement of the withdrawal of his candidacy.

He assured the delegates that if given the chance at the primary, he would not disappoint the party, adding that as a governor, all the civil servants would be treated with social justice and welfare.

He also assured the people of Eket, Uyo, and Ikot Ekpene senatorial districts of fairness and equity in the next dispensation.

The senator announced plans to work with others on the theme of “3Rs”, promising to “recover Akwa Ibom, reconcile Akwa Ibom back to God and reposition Akwa Ibom for greatness”.

He further assured the people of the state that if voted to power, his government would banish hunger, insecurity, hardship, and injustice from Akwa Ibom.

A State House of Assembly member, representing Ikono state constituency, in Akwa Ibom state, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP], Asuquo Nana Udo has dumped the party and joined the Young Progressive Party [YPP].

Again, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency, Mr. Emmanuel Ukpong Udoh, also left the PDP and pitched his tent with the YPP, while a Senatorial hopeful and former House of Representatives member for Abak-Etim Ekpo Federal constituency, Mr. Emmanuel Ekon, a former Commissioner in the state, Mr. Samuel Efanga and other decampees from the PDP family in the state were presented to the leadership of the YPP in the state.

The decampees who were made of mainly PDP and APC members affirmed their support and commitment to the party, promising to work tirelessly for its victory in the 2023 general elections in the state.

Welcoming the National officers of the party, the state chairman of YPP, Apostle Nyeneime Andy, said the birth of the party signified a new Akwa Ibom state where hunger would be overcome through the YPP.

According to him, in every generation, there is a Nehemiah who rises to build the broken walls of the city, describing YPP as a third force that has come to produce the next governor of the state and that the reign of other big parties has just ended.

Receiving the decampees, YPP National Chairman, Comrade Bishop Emmanuel Amakiri urged them to feel at home at the party, assuring that it is a wonderful family that cares for the interest of all and sundry.

According to him, the time has come for every young progressive Nigerian to take his destiny into his hands, saying he was fulfilled seeing the masses that have decided to rally around their popular son, to liberate Akwa Ibom from its current quagmire.

He described OBA as the best person that can take Akwa Ibom to its desired destination and urged the people to eschew and resist vote buying because it brought Nigeria to its present vulnerable state.

Recalled that Senator Akpan Bassey Albert currently serves as Chairman of Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources upstream in the 9th Senate, was formerly a member of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] but recently defected to the YPP in a quest to further his governorship ambition in 2023.
