AK NUJ advocates stronger institutions; Luke acknowledges Eno’s food security effort through Bulk Purchase Agency

The Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Comrade Amos Etuk has advocated for stronger institutions in the country saying this will strengthen democracy and propel Nigeria to greater economic prosperity.

Etuk made this remark when he served as a panelist during the Eastern Bar Conference held in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital.

Represented by Comrade Nsibiet John, Chairman of the Federated Chapel in Akwa Ibom NUJ, Etuk opined that for Nigeria to get most of its policies right, it is imperative that the country strengthens it’s institutions like the Police Force, EFCC, banking and others.

The 2024 Eastern Bar Conference has is themed, Contemporary Challenges: Exploring Legal and legislative Solutions to Economic crises and insecurity.

Earlier, in his keynote address Barr. Onofiok Luke expressed concerns on the fate of the Nation’s economy. He explained that Lawyers need to be more involved and intentional about lawmaking processes so that they will help in nation building.

The former lawmaker who was in his element explained that Nigeria is never in short supply of Legislative acumen. But that implementation has always been the challenge. He praised Governor Umo Bassey Eno for his foresight in establishing a Bulk Purchase Agency in Akwa Ibom, adding that the agency will help address food inflation in and restore food security in the State.

The Eastern Bar Forum is a collection of Lawyers from the South East and South South Region of Nigeria. The conference continues till 22nd June, 2024.
