AKSG Commends FG for Approving Ibom Deep Seaport

Akwa Ibom State government has commended the Federal Executive Council for approving the construction of the Ibom Deep seaport project.

The Federal Executive Council at its meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday approved the full business case of Ibom Deep seaport project for Akwa Ibom.

This approval by FG signals the full take off, of the port project which is a result of the strategic focus and dogged effort of the Udom Emmanuel led administration to actualise this long-awaited vision of the state.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Ini Ememobong and made available to newsmen in Uyo on Wednesday, he said the state government was, “deeply appreciative to their Excellencies, President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, SAN.

“Others mentioned in the statement were the entire members of the Federal Executive Council, especially the Minister of Transport, Minister of State for Transport, the Nigerian Ports Authority, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, Bureau for Public Procurement and every official of the Federal Government involved in today’s landmark decision.”

According to the commissioner, the state government was also grateful to the Technical Committee for the Implementation of the Deep Seaport led by Mrs. Mfon Usoro and the entire officials of the Akwa Ibom State Government, who worked tirelessly to achieve this success story.

“With this development, His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel will soon layout a full-scale implementation plan for both the Deep seaport and the Liberty Oil and Gas free Zone, also recently approved for commencement, “he said.

The deep seaport project of the Akwa Ibom state government have suffered multiple setbacks since 1999 by previous administrations.
