Akwa Ibom indigenes in Cross River hail appointment of Umana

Some Akwa Ibom State indigenes residing in Cross River State have commended President Muhammadu Buhari for nominating one of their sons Obong Umana Okon Umana as Minister-designate to the senate for confirmation as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Publicity Secretary of U 2 ( U SQUARE) organization ( Umana Umana Organization) a political campaign group used by the nominee during his aspiration to contest the position of Governor in the 2015 elections under the All Progressive Congress (APC) platform in a chat with LENS Reporter in Calabar on Thursday expressed profound gratitude to the President for this act of magnanimity towards Obong Umana.

Umana a former finance commissioner in Architect Obong Victor Atta’s administration and secretary to the State Government during Senator Godswill Akpabio’s tenure is the Managing Director of Oil and Gas Free Trade Zone Authority since 2016 to overseer the work in Onne, Rivers State which was officially opened in March 1997 with more than 30 international Oil and Gas Companies including many of the World’s Largest corporations now registered as Free Zone users.

The cargo managed by DMS international is the only Free Zone in the world dedicated to Oil and Gas. In Nigeria, this is a major success initiative in local content development has created and supported numerous jobs that have helped to drive infrastructural development in Port Harcourt hence upgrading both the Federal Lighter Terminal and the Federal Ocean Terminal and continues to improve Quayside facilities, communication links and other services in the Private sector with investments worth over $300 million dollars putting Nigeria as vantage position as the leader in sub- Sahara Africa oil production.

It is hoped that the nominee will be assigned a portfolio commensurate with his experience in order to use his position to actualize the establishment of the Jubilee Oil and Gas Free Zone at Ikot Abasi in Akwa Ibom State.
