Akwa Ibom NUJ charges members to partner with governor towards wife burial

Nigeria Union of journalists Akwa Ibom State council has while commiserating with the state governor on the death of his wife, Pst. (Mrs.) Patience Umo charged its leadership to participate actively in the funeral arrangements as well as offer professional services where needed.

This is contained in a communique issued by the Union at the end of its November Congress held at the Union secretariat, along information drive Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.

The eight points communique was signed by comrade Nsibiet John, chairman communique drafting committee, Edet Effiong, secretary and Amos Etuk and Dominic Akpan as chairman and secretary of the Union respectively.

1. The Union thanked the Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner, CP Joseph Eribo for his financial assistance towards improving infrastructure at the Press Centre. Recall the CP sponsored the construction of a new sign post and painting of the Daniel Ekanem Hall.

2 . “Congress commended Comrade Amos Etuk-led administration for the commitment to members’ welfare over the years, adding that the recent release of N2million to the Welfare Committee for disbursement to some beneficiaries further demonstrated the kind disposition of the leadership to the welfare policy.

3. “Congress also celebrated members of the Union who recently attained higher academic feats, and wished them well in the practice of the profession.

4. “Congress appealed to the State Government to fix the failed Ikpa-Itu road junction, as well as other bad spots on Nduetong road, Edet Akpan Avenue, Abak road, by Sampson Udo Idiong roundabout and the road leading to Itam park.

5. It also commended the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency for the purchase of new waste disposal equipment and inauguration by the State Governor and urged the Agency to ensure that the facilities are put to optimal use.

6. ” Congress noted with dismay the increasing number of mentally-challenged persons in Uyo Metropolis and called on relevant agencies of government to ensure timely and continuous evacuation.

7. Congress called on the Akwa Ibom State Police Command to consider the establishment of a Police Post at Ntak Inyang to enhance the safety of staff of AKBC and the adjoining communities.

8. Congress called on citizens of the State to be vigilant as the yuletide season approaches.
