Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner Andrew Amiengheme says it is most unfortunate that “meanings are being read” into the events that led to the murder of 26-year-old Iniobong Umoren who had set out to attend a job interview in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, before meeting her untimely death in the most gruesome manner.
Award-winning investigative journalist David Hundeyin who featured on a private television new programme with Amiengheme, claims there’s a deliberate attempt to cover up for prominent personalities involved in the death of 26 year-old Iniobong “Hiny” Umoren, who on Friday April 29, set out to attend a job interview in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
According to Hundeyin, the Akwa Ibom State Police command is at the heart of this cover up saying Ezikiel Akpan as paraded by the Police as the prime suspect has other highprofile individuals working with him. The Police action according to him may either be out of incompetence or deliberate.
Hundeyin hinged part of his allegation in the recorded video of the TV station, on the fact that the crime scene is already desicrated given the traffic of people to the place thus denying the Police the otherwise sacred vicinity that would have facilitated their gathering of potent information that could be admissible in court.
Again, he alluded to the fact that the first person the culprit proberbly called from the scene of crime using two different numbers, was one Kufre Effiong and which he traced to the S9 G unit Ewet housing address where the crime was committed. He said the police were ahead of him in tracking these information yet pretended not to be in the know of critical information to prosecute the case.
Amiengheme rebutted the allegation insisting the Police took all precautionary measures on the matter. He said they followed up on the lead from the social media to arrest the culprit and his father as well as getting the former to confess to the crime. The homicide unit of the Police Force exhumed her body and deposited it in the murtuary.
He said investigation is still ongoing on the case and called on members of the public with credible information to inform the Police accordingly.
