Akwa Ibom will become the digital hub in Africa as OBA digital hub graduates 50

The gubernatorial candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Akwa Ibom State and Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District, distinguished Senator Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA) has said that Akwa Ibom is poised to become a major digital hub in Africa.

Senator Albert stated this at the graduation ceremony of 50 fresh trainees of OBA Digital Technology Hub at the Albert Multi-Purpose Recreational and Event Centre at Ifa Ikot Akpan, along Airport Road, Uyo on Friday, September 23, 2022.

OBA, who is the chairman of, the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), said he decided to offer the training free of charge to the trainees so as to give them lifetime empowerment in ICT.

He encouraged the graduands to utilize the skills they have been equipped with, to make successful careers in the digital world.

The two-term Senator also urged the trainees to utilize the opportunity judiciously so as to broaden their knowledge base and transfer the acquired knowledge to others.

“Human Capacity Development is the key to a changing world and its economy. What you have acquired for yourself is an authentic capacity development that will always stay with you and you can transfer what you have been thought to the next person. Akwa Ibom will in a few years become the digital hub in Africa.” OBA added.

He further disclosed that made scholarship awards to 481 Akwa Ibom Students by the grace of God, describing it as the greatest of all his achievements.

Mr. Uforotobong Felix, who spoke on behalf of the trainees, thanked the Almighty God for the gift of a statesmanlike Senator (Obong) Bassey Albert (OBA) and his amiable wife, Pastor (Mrs) Imaobong Nkiru Bassey Albert.

According to Felix, the quote by James Clark, “A politician thinks about the next election while a statesman thinks about the next generation” best describes the passion and commitment of Senator OBA in pursuing human capital development, which includes the educational empowerment scheme, the scholarship programmes for the undergraduates and many others.

He said, “This training in the OBA Digital Technology Hub has been very deep, insightful, educative and very challenging. It has opened us up to skills we never thought we will acquire”.
