Alumni association promises to donate books to the Cross River State library
The National Association of University of Port Harcourt Alumni Association (Cross River State branch) has pledged to donate books worth millions of naira to the Cross River State library complex as a way of contributing their quoter towards advancement of education in the state and Nigeria.
The newly inaugurated president of the association Dr. Sunny Egor-Oyama made the promise during interactive session with journalists on Saturday in Calabar shortly after his exco came on board in a keenly contested election.
The books which he said is for empowerment of young minds will be housed in a separate section of the library and would give access to students who lack reading materials saying that this initiative will help students in their studies.
Oyama, a consultant gynecologist at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), highlighted the association’s plans to support education in the state.
He said that the alumni association under his leadership has plans to distribute learning and reading materials to secondary students and others pursuing similar programs in tertiary institutions.
Oyama averred that the alumni would embark on membership drive to gather alumni in the state irrespective of location in order to re-energize the chapter to align with national programs stressing that it would initiate an open-door policy to engage all members in decision-making processes.
The association’s Secretary General, Dr. Francis Ekok, who spoke in company of the immediate past president of the alumni group, Dr. Victor Edim Esq., reiterated that the association will embark on aggressive membership drive throughout the State to congregate and increase the size of the chapter.
He assured that the new executive will work towards actualizing these set goals.
