Andy emerges YPP guber candidate for Akwa Ibom 2023 election
A Cleric, Pastor Nyenime Andy has emerged as the Young Progressives Party (YPP) governorship candidate for the 2023 general elections in Akwa Ibom.
Andy, who polled a total of 209 votes out of the 217 accredited delegates was declared the winner by the Chairman, Electoral Committee for the YPP governorship primary in Akwa Ibom, Mr Olawale Martins in Uyo on Thursday.
Martins, who was also the returning officer for the gubernatorial primary called on Akwa Ibom residents to embrace true and transparent leadership and good governance that will be offered by the YPP.
He said the governorship candidate emerged through a transparent, democratic process without any imposition by the party.
He urged the people to stamp out monetisation in politics, stressing that when you pay delegates for candidates to emerge or you imposed candidates against the collective will of the people, then it will continue to be business as usual, as power does not reside with the people.
He called all Akwa Ibom people to embrace YPP and vote en masse for the party in the forthcoming general elections to ensure the total transformation of the state from 2023.
In his acceptance speech, Andy thanked the party faithful for their perseverance and resilience, assuring that there would be a total transformation of the state with YPP in power.
He assured that if voted into power, the dividends of democracy would be translated in all local government areas of the state.
“Akwa Ibom people should be ready for transformation for change and I can tell you the next governor will come from YPP and they will know, truly God has sent a leader.
“I can tell you Akwa Ibom state is going to be YPP and the time for the party to take over the state is now.
“The mistakes before is that candidate sits down to draw what is intended do that may not benefit the people.
“So, in the next two weeks, I am going to come out with a blueprint workshop, where the 31 Local Government Areas will have a workshop with me. Where they tell me their peculiar problems.
“And through these, I will come up with my manifesto because the mistake is sitting down and thinking you know all without consulting with the people,” Andy said.
The Young Progressives Party flag bearer said that he had earlier gone around the 31LGAs and was aware of particular problems of the people at the grassroots.
Members of the National Working Committee of YPP were led by the National Publicity Secretary, Mr Olawale Martins, and INEC officials were on the ground to observe the primary election.
