APC party chieftain in Cross River calls for resignation of state chairman, party kick
There is palpable unease in the camp of the APC in Cross River State as Chief Henry Onwe, a leading member of the party from Northern Cross River senatorial district has called for the resignation of the state party chairman, Barrister Alphonsus Eba.
Chief Onwe who hinged his reason for the call on the fact that APC lost all seats in the Yala Local Government Area where Mr. Eba hails from stressing that out of the five elections conducted, the chairman won only in the guber polls as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the Senate and House of Representatives elections while the Labour Party (LP) won the Presidential elections and the State House of Assembly elections in the chairman’s constituency.
These results including those he shared from several polling units in Echamoufan ward, in his reconing reflects ineptitude to manage the party affairs well hence the call for his resignation.
But a contrary statement by Mr. Erasmus Ekpang, the Publicity Secretary of the party issued on Tuesday April 11, 2023 said the state Executive Committee in a meeting convened by the Deputy State Chairman, Prince Eka Williams credited Barrister Eba, the incumbent chairman for leading the party to a 90% victory in the 2023 general elections within the two years of him joining the APC and being saddled with the responsibility of leading the party through the just concluded 2023 general elections.
Ekpang describe the call for his resignation by a stakeholder as ill-timed and without recourse to his sterling leadership and performance which has kept the party afloat and sued for the support of it’s members assuring them of a level playing ground while commending the ward and chapter Executive Committees for passing a vote of confidence on the chairman Barrister Alphonsus Eba.
Effort by LENS Reporter to contact chief Henry Onwe for comments on the matter proved abortive as at the time of filing this reports.
