ASUU says, “We’ve seen light at end of tunnel”, Strike would be called off ‘in a matter of days’_Gbajabiamila
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has praised the House of Representatives for its intervention in the lingering strike that has grounded academic activities for almost eight months.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, expressed optimism that the strike will soon be called off.
The Speaker who spoke during the brief meeting with the ASUU delegation at the National Assembly complex, Abuja on Monday applauded the striking lecturers and President for taking necessary steps toward resolving the crisis in the interest of Nigerian students.
In his address, ASUU President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, who applauded the House intervention, disclosed that the final resolution will be taken by the National Executive Council meeting after signing relevant documents, on Tuesday.
The president of the union, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, said, “For the first time, we have seen light at the end of the tunnel.”
The 8-month-old nationwide strike embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may seemingly be ending soon following a remark by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila that he expected that the strike would be called off “in a matter of days.”
