ASUU Strike: Labour Party faults FG’s approval and certificate issued to factional academic union
Labour Party has faulted Federal Government for recognising the factional academic union, adding that the government did so because it has run out of Ideas to address ASUU Strike
The Labour Party has condemned the federal government’s decision to recognize another faction in the academic environment with the Certificate of incorporation issued to Congress of University Academic CONUSA.
A statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Arabambi Abayomi Oluwafemi says the move spearheaded by the Minister Of Labour and Productivity DR, Chris Ngige is an ill wind that will bring no good to the Academic Community
Comrade Arabambi advised the Federal Government to explore ways of returning Students back to School rather than creating more crises.’
According to him, it is sad to note that those who benefited from Scholarship at the expense of Nigeria are now the ones making education elusive to the masses forgetting that the Monster they are creating today will consume them tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige has issued a certificate of recognition to a factional trade union in the university system, the Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA).
Earlier, the invitation was sent to reporters on Tuesday by the Deputy Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Oshundun Olajidefor the Wednesday event.
CONUA, a separate body of academic unions with a presence in a few federal universities, is led by its National Coordinator, Niyi Sunmonu, a lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.
It is not clear what the implication of recognising the body will be on the seven-month industrial action by the Academic Staff Union Of Universities.
