Ayade urges FRSC to be disciplined in dealing with traffic offenders

The Cross River State Governor Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade has advised that road safety officials be disciplined and cautious with traffic offenders.

He made the remark yesterday at the 2021 campaign mega rally of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Calabar at the Calabar Municipal council ground as the nation approaches the end of the year.

The Governor who was represented by his deputy Prof. Ivara Isu, said “advocacy, sensitization, and education rather than the display of power and might should be the order of the day”

You must avoid assault and order unconditional means in addressing obsessed lapses that will smear the image of the organization

He expressed the hope that the enlightenment campaign will achieve a 15% reduction in road traffic crashes and a 20% reduction in fatality rate as recommended by the united nations’ decade of action on road.

The Governor enjoined drivers and other road users to imbibe road safety measures as a lot depends on them while shunning overloading and driving beyond recommended speed limits.

Speaking also at the event, the Zonal Commanding Officer Port Harcourt, Mr. Chidiebere Nkwonta said FRSC witnesses a lot of waste in human and natural resources at this time of the year.

According to him, this explains the need for sensitization and advocacy during the ember month periods to complement other measures wielded to mitigate incessant road accidents.

He said “from experience and data, Speed Limit has been responsible for over 60% road crashes in Nigeria in the last ten years”

Earlier, Sector Commander Ocheja Ameeh intimated that the ember month is usually high in the vehicular movement of individuals and goods on our high ways due to various festive activities in the country.

“This underscores the need for FRSC as an organization to continually create an avenue for interaction and sensitization of the motoring public and relevant stakeholders on the proper use of the high ways to make them safe for all of us.”

The theme of the 2021 Mega Rally was Maintain Safe Speed, Avoid Night Travels and Enjoy Quality Road Experience.
