Bekwara residents in Cross River lament unavailability of basic amenities, neglect by government
The Paramount Ruler of Bekwarra Local Government Area in Cross River State, HRM Odey Ogbeche has bemoaned the plight of the people whose only source of drinking water is the stream where headsmen and their cattle also drink.
The Monarch said this over the weekend when the campaign train of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate Senator (Prof.) Sandy Onor paid a courtesy visit to his palace in Akwarinyi – Abu.
He narrated that on top of this pathetic neglect, Bekwarra L.G.A was disconnected from the national grid at the onset of the Ayade administration notwithstanding the widely advertised stable power supply from the Obudu Power plant which has never been true since they have been living and groping in darkness.
Ogbeche complained that the government has abandoned its constitutional roles with no evidence of dividend of democracy anywhere in the last seven and a half years of the Ayade administration in the State.
Also, the Clan Head of Bawo Community, HRM Chief Augustine Ushie lamented that when anyone falls ill, it is a 50/50 chance of survival because there is no single health care facility in the area not even primary health care provision for pregnant women.
A worried resident, Mr. Roland Oko said that due to the horrible condition of the road farmers spend between N3,500 to N5,000 to transport their farm produce to the markets.
Senator Onor who was surprised at the tales promised that once elected and sworn into office as Governor of Cross River State in 2023, his priority will be to meet the basic needs of the people which is his social contract with Cross Riverians.
