Benefiting communities from FG compensation on portion of Calabar-Itu road shortchanged

The five benefitting communities of Cross River in Odukpani axis of Calabar-Itu federal highway reconstruction compensation have lamented irregularities in the payment for structures and crops for 14 out of 38 valuers present at the exercise in the multipurpose hall of Calabar municipal council.

The spokesman for the community Mr. Ekpenyong Akiba while fielding questions from newsmen wondered why they were asked to travel all the way to Calabar with even nursing mothers to collect bounce Sterling bank cheques for N100,000 instead of the N200,000 initially signed for by accredited beneficiaries.

He called on the federal government to wade into the matter with a view to addressing the abnormally.

Effort by our reporter to get officials of the Federal Ministry of Works to comment on this allegation was not feasible as at the time of filling this report.
