BREAKING: FEC merges Niger Delta ministry, regional development commissions under newly created ministry of regional development, others
Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) has scrapped the ministries of Niger Delta Affairs and Sports.
The decision came at Wednesday’s meeting of the council presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Bayo Onanuga the special adviser to the president on information and strategy, made the disclosure in his X post, former WhatsApp.
The now returned National Sports Commission is to take over the role of the former sports ministry.
The council has established instead the ministry of regional development to oversee all the regional development commissions in the country.
It also approved the merger of ministries of tourism with the ministry of culture and creative economy.
Onanuga’s post reads: “President Tinubu and Federal Executive Council scrap Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of sports development.
“There will now be a ministry of regional development to oversee all the regional development commissions, such as Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, North East Development Commission.
“The National Sports Commission will take over the role of the Ministry of Sports.
“The FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.
“The decisions were taken today at the meeting of Federal Executive Council in Abuja.”
