C’ River: INEC ready to start Continuous Voters Registration July 26

The Cross River Office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says 123 Registration Officers among it’s staff have been appointed and trained as Registration Area Officers (RAOs) for the physical Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) in the State.

Dr Emmanuel Hart, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) disclosed this on Thursday in Calabar while briefing Journalists at the end of Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security meeting ahead of the exercise which begins on Monday, July 26.

He added that the officers selected were computer literates and that they would be supervised by the Electoral Officers (EOs) of the 18 Local Government Areas Offices

“Training of Trainers of Registration Officers selected from the ICT and Electoral Operations Departments was concluded at the Commission’s Headquarter in Abuja on July 13.

“The officials came back to the state and trained the 123 Registration Officers, ” he said.

According to him, the exercise would be carried out in the 18 Local Government Areas offices of the commission, except Calabar Municipality, Calabar South, Akpabuyo and Bakassi, which were vandalized during the EndSARs protest in 2020.

“However, the preparation for these four local government area offices is ongoing and will be completed before the take off of the exercise, ” he said.

The REC further informed that three machines are dedicated to each local government, which have been received by the EOs.

He enjoined all eligible voters that are yet to get their voter card to avail themselves of the opportunity and turn up to register in their nearest local government area office of INEC.

“If any applicant encounter any problem, they should come to us and before they leave, we would have solved that problem, ” Hart said.

Speaking, the State Police Commissioner, Mr Sikiru Akande said the security agencies in the State were fully mobilised for the exercise.

Akande, who is the Chairman of the Committee said the meeting was to appraise the readiness of all sister agencies for the exercise.

“On our part, we will provide adequate security throughout the duration of the exercise, ” he said.
