C’ River Restaurant and Bar Association Chairman lauds Otu’s appointment of Biase indigenes

The chairman of Cross River State Restaurant and Bar Association, Mr. Felix Dien has commended Governor Bassey Edet Otu for appointing some prominent indigenes of Biase Local Government Area into the State Executive Council.

Dien while fielding questions from newsmen on Wednesday August 23, 2023 in Calabar praised Governor Otu for finding Biase Local Government Area worthy for appointment of not just two commissioners but choosing the youngest of them all among the commissioners in the person of Barrister Ijom Ukam as the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development having promised to include the youths of the state in governance.

He also appreciated the appointment of Dr. (Mrs.) Helen Egodo as Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs who will leverage on Dr. Beta Edu’s appointment as Minister Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to better the lot of Nigeria and Cross Riverians
.
He used the occasion to call on the appointees who were chosen not due to their qualification, but for the Governor’s magnanimity to bring their experience and antecedents to bear in the delivery of quality service to the state and make the people of Biase nation proud in the discharge of their responsibilities to the people of Cross River State.

Biase Local Government Area has produced two Deputy Governors in the State in the persons of Late Prof. Solomon Unoh and Prof. Ivara Ejemut Esu.

Rose Ugbe appointed acting dean Law faculty University of Calabar, others

University of Calabar Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi has approved the appointment of Dr. Rose Ohiama Ugbe as Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law.

They also set up a Committee to take charge of students’ mobilization to Law School, review, and possibly recall those already sent to Law School.

This is coming on the heels of a recent protest alleging that the suspended Dean, Prof. Cyril Ndifon was a sex predator among other concerns.

The appointment of Dr. Rose takes effect from Tuesday, August 22, 2023, till a substantive Dean is elected.

Prof. Obi in a media parley pleaded with the students, alumni, friends, and parents to give the school a chance to get to the root of the allegations leveled against the suspended dean, Prof. Ndifon.

The NBA’s Ad-Hoc Committee investigating suspended Unical’s Faculty of Law Dean, Prof. Cyril Ndifon arrived in Calabar on Monday August 21, 2023 to investigate the allegations of sexual assault leveled against the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Calabar, Cross River State.

The Ad-hoc committee members are Nigerian Bar Association (NBA’S) 1st Vice President, Linda Rose Bala, Assistant General Secretary, Daniel Kip, the Chairperson of the NBA women’s Forum and the chairman of the NBA Calabar Branch, Attah Ochinke.

Barrister Akorede Habeb Lawal, the National Publicity Secretary of NBA said in a statement issued last Saturday that the decision was reached by the National Executive Committee of the body at her recent monthly meeting presided over by its president, Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau and attended by all national officers.

It will be recalled that female students from faculty of law in University of Calabar protested and labeled Prof. Ndifon as a sex predator on Monday last week.

In 2015, Prof. Ndifon was arrested for allegedly raping a young girl, the randy Dean was suspended and later cleared of the allegations and recalled to his position as Dean in 20217.
