Calabar mayor undertakes major rehabilitation of council secretariat, others

The Mayor of Calabar municipal council, Apostle (Rt. Hon.) James Anam has embarked on major renovation and rehabilitation of infrastructures in the headquarters of the local council as part of efforts to improve the lives of citizens and conducive work environment for staff.

The goal of the project is to upgrade critical infrastructure across Calabar and provide conducive working environment for political office holders and staff of the Council.

Apostle (Rt. Hon) James Anam who disclosed this while interacting with journalists, said the Project will include rehabilitation of internal roads within the Council, renovation of the Political Block building and Skills Acquisition Centre, as well as the upgrading of facilities at the Ikot Ishie Market.

He said the Project will also include restoration of public power supply and provision of water in the Council Headquarters.

The mayor spoke of the determination of his administration to decongest markets and major roads in the council area.

He explained that the new revenue payment format being introduced by the Council is aimed at boosting internally generated revenue and addressing issues of revenue leakages.

Anam said special attention will be paid to the Ika-Ika Oqua Market where market levies and tolls will henceforth be paid through POS.

Apostle Anam said he was confident that the projects will bring numerous benefits to the community, including improving road safety, reducing traffic congestion, enhancing public services and amenities, increasing access to clean water and proper sanitation among others.

The exercise according to him, is expected to be completed within his first 100 days in office and would boost economic growth and job creation, thereby enhancing quality of life for citizens and residents of the municipality.

He assured citizens that the project will be executed transparently with regular updates and progress reports.
