Calabar South mayor leads refuse evacuation in Calabar South LGA

There was a sigh of relief for residents living or doing business on major streets in Calabar South Local Government Area on Thursday, November 10, 2022, as the Executive Chairman of Calabar South Local Government Council Hon. Mrs. Esther Bassey led a sanitation team bolstered by payloaders and trucks to evacuate refuse dumps and litter on roads and streets which hitherto pollutes the environment with attendant health risks.

Speaking to newsmen at the scene of the sanitation exercise personally supervised by Bassey, a resident on Ansa Effiom Street adjoining Ewa Ekeng by Egerton Street junction, Henshaw Town school axis, Mr. Bong Henshaw paid glowing tribute to the Chairman for her prompt response in evacuating the refuse heaps in the area which had rendered the road unmotorable. He urged her not to rest in this noble effort until Calabar regains its cleanest City status which earned her the name Canaan City.

Efforts by the LENS reporter to get a comment from the Commissioner for Environment Mr. Mfon Bassey and Chairman of Calabar Municipal Council Hon. Nta Eke whose domain is in a pathetic state proved abortive at the time of filing this report. Refuse heaps are still visible and a menace at Marian Market in Calabar Municipal Council Area. Others are Fenton, Lagos, and Goldie by Etim Edem Motor Park near the popular Watt Market axis where huge refuse heaps are a common sight.
