Carnival Calabar 2022: Winners emerge with Passion 4 Band clinging 11th win

South Africa Contingent, Odukpani Local Government Area, and Passion 4 Band have been declared the winners of the 2022 Carnival Calabar Band competition while the duo of Odukpani L.G.A in cultural display and South Africa in International parades. The Passion 4 Band noted for their green outfit and stunt displays pulled 1,762 points to emerge top for the eleventh time beating six other competing bands.

Senator Princess Florence Ita-Giwa Seagull Band came 2nd, Governor Ben Ayade Calas Vegas 3rd, Freedom 4th, Bayside 5th, Master Blaster 6th, and Diamond 7th position respectively.

Again, the cultural carnival parade saw Odukpani Local Government Area emerge 1st, while Calabar South and Ogoja L.G.A came 2nd and 3rd.

In the international category, South Africa clinched the International Carnival Parade, beating favorites like Brazil and Lithuania to 2nd and 3rd place positions.

It would be recalled that the carnival, however, almost lost its shine due to the death of spectators at the Bogobiri axis of the carnival on December 27, 2022, during the Bikers/Exotic Cars parade when a Toyota Camry lost control.
