Cleric calls for Rotational Power Shift to enhance inclution of nationalities
A Legal luminary and Senior Pastor of Christ’s Advocates church, Pastor (Prof.) Tony Ukam has suggested a rotational power shift as a solution to checking political imbalance in the country.
Professor Ukam made the assertion in a chat with LENS Reporter in Calabar against the backdrop of the growing clamor for power to return to the South in 2023.
He averred that for equity and fairness to reign in the polity, power should be rotational among the six geopolitical zones in the country and not on the north-south equation which has impacted ethnic nationalities disproportionately and hence denying them the opportunity of benefiting from democracy dividend.
And pressured to comment on the recent call by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN) for a state of emergency in Anambra due to heightening killings in order to avert chaos in the November 6, 2021 governorship elections, Ukam said it is unconstitutional pointing to the fact that the security situation in some northern states is worse, and advised the government to rather declare a national state of emergency to address the multiple challenges facing the country.
