Cleric condemns thuggery at campaigns of political party

The General Overseer of Divine Mountain of Joy Ministry Inc, Bishop Dr. Stephen Edet Okon Asuquo has kicked against the activities of hoodlums at political campaign venues of political parties leading overlooking the 2023 general elections.

Asuquo who was reacting to the invasion of the Ranchers Bees stadium venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign mega rally in Kaduna on Monday 17, October 2022, described the development as a rape of democracy.

He made the remark in Calabar Tuesday in a chat with a LENS reporter in Calabar while calling on security agencies to check-mate this worrisome trend before it scuttles the 2023 general elections.

Asuquo who is the Assistant Commander General with Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service queried why political opponents should resort to using thugs to disrupt campaigns and the use of hate speech. This threat to the peaceful assembly he said is capable of causing the postponement of the elections.

The statement of the Secretary of Consecrated Bishops Council of Nigeria in Cross River State and Niger-Delta Region was corroborated by his wife, Pastor (Mrs.) Bolaji Asuquo called for prayers and fasting by the body of Christ and appealed to the Nigeria Inter-faith Council to do the needful by calling on political leaders to caution and call their members to order referencing the statement of former President Goodluck Jonathan that no political ambition should cost the blood of innocent Nigerians.

The Divine Mountain of Joy Ministry Inc is a prophetic and deliverance Church with branches in Abuja, Eket, Uyo, and Bakassi and headquarters in Calabar, Cross River State capital.
