Cleric sues for peace in Rivers in the spirit of the season
As Christians all over the world celebrate Christmas, a season in Christendom to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, a cleric and lead pastor of Gospel House, Home of the Gospel Deliverance Ministry International, pastor James John has appealed to warring factions in the political crisis that has engulfed Rivers State to sheathe sword and come to a comprise to ensure progress of in the South-South region.
John made the plea while fielding questions from newsmen in Calabar, Cross River State on Monday, December 25, 2023 following his Christmas day message titled “Jesus the Reason for the Season” referencing Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called wonderful counselor, the Mighty God, The everlasting Father the Prince of Peace.“
He averred that since the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike and the former Governor of Rivers State Siminalayi Fubara are both Christians and had sworn to an oath by the Holy Bible to govern the state, the spirit of God encapsulate in the birth of Jesus Christ should reconcile both individuals and ensure peace in the embattled state.
Recall the political crisis in Rivers state snowballed into the demolition of the state House of Assembly complex which was burnt earlier, even as security personnel reportedly barricaded the entrance.
It would be recalled that president Bola Tinubu intervened the second time in the crisis in Rivers by brokering a truce between Wike and Fubara factions in Abuja with Peter Odili, a former governor of the state and others in attendance. An eight point resolution was signed last Monday with the president directive that all lawsuits instituted in the courts by Fubara and his team should be withdrawn immediately as well as dropping all impeachment proceedings initiated against the governor by the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The resolution was signed by Governor Fubara, his deputy, Ordu, Wike, Ribadu, factional speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martin Amae, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Axon Chukwuemeka, and his All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart Chairman, Tony Okocha.
Among the high profile personalities present at the meeting were the vice president Kashim Shettima and the president’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Pastor John Concluded by saying that a life without Christ is full of crisis hence both parties in the crisis should accept Christ into their life to end the political logjam in Rivers state.
