Cleric warns Nigeria against mismanaging gains of subsidy removal

The Area Supervisor of African Apostolic Mission Church Inc., Rev Utibe Ben Bassey has advised President Bola Tinubu not to misuse gains of fuel Subsidy removal in his sermon on Sunday July 23, 2023 in the church auditorium in Calabar.

He urged the government referencing Ecclesiastes 7:14 “in the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider; God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing that will come after him,” to utilize proceeds for the infrastructural development of the country and should put in place policies to cushion effects of the hardship on the citizenry.

He said the president should borrow a leaf from pharaoh of Egypt who engaged the wise counsel from Joseph in saving for the rainy day in the period of abundance which served as panacea in the season of famine.

Rev. Bassey called for a change of heart by those in positions of responsibility shunning corruption and abuse of public office for private gain which according to him disrupts the social contract with the people.

He concluded by suggesting the inclusion of anti-corruption subjects in the schools curriculum from primary, secondary to tertiary institutions to recede the cancer-worm that has eaten deep into the fabric of our society.
