CNN fires Chris, brother of ex-NY governor Cuomo
US news network CNN says it has fired anchor Chris Cuomo after additional information suggesting he had helped his brother, former New York governor Andrew Cuomo, to deal with sexual harassment accusations.
Chris Cuomo had been suspended since Tuesday pending further evaluation of the case.
CNN said on Saturday that it terminated him after the new information came to light suggesting his involvement with his brother’s defense.
The news network did not elaborate on the content of the additional information. But there are allegations that the anchor may have used his own news sources to find out information on the case and the accusers.
Chris Cuomo admitted in May that he had broken some of the company rules in advising his brother how to handle the allegations.
Chris Cuomo said, “This is not how I want my time at CNN to end.” He added, “I could not be more proud of the team at Cuomo Prime Time and the work we did.”
The older Cuomo was forced to step down as governor in August after an investigation found he had sexually harassed women, including government workers.
