Community in Cross River protest mining activities of Chinese agents on their farmlands
The people of Ikpatan community in Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State protested Friday on the streets of Igoli against the alleged invasion of their farmlands by Chinese miners who have ravaged the community in search of mineral resources.
According to information from the area and as streamed by Cross River Watch TV, women and youths were seen flaunting multiple inscriptions on placards like ‘no to the activities of illegal miners, we are self-employed’. They vowed to resist releasing their farmland for illegal mining activities without appropriate compensation by the government.
Efforts by LENS to get the appropriate government authorities to comment on the development were nill as at the time of filing this report.
