COVID-19: Oriental Energy donates food items to communities in Mbo, AKS

Oriental Energy Resources Limited, an oil exploration company in Mbo Local government area of Akwa Ibom State, has donated food items to cushion the effect of the pandemic on the people

The items include 200 gallons of vegetable oil, 230 bags of rice and 230 bags of garri.

Head of Community Relations of the Company, and leader of the delegation Dr.Uwem Ite, while presenting the items said  the company  appreciated the strides the state has recorded in the fight against the pandemic hence the need to support it.

“As a responsible organisation, Oriental is aware of Covid 19 and the efforts of the state government to combat the disease. Therefore, the management has decided to help our neighbors. It’s a token to support the state government and the communities in Mbo”, he stated.

He said the company has also awarded scholarships to deserving indigent students of the state, built and equipped a multi- purpose printing and reprographic facility at Enwang ,  standard Science Laboratory at the Community Grammar School, Ebughu as well as the ongoing construction of Oriental village all in Mbo Local Government Area

The Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government and Chairman of COVID-19  Management Committee, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, who took delivery of the items appreciated the company for the gesture, describing  it as an indication of the company adding value to human lives.

Said he, “Let me on behalf of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel,appreciate the Oriental Energy Resources Limited for this gesture of providing succour to Akwa Ibomites and the people of Mbo in particular, which is your primary area of operations. By feeding the people, it means you are keying into His Excellency’s efforts at producing healthy , hardworking and strong citizens to play their own roles in the governor’s socio-economic transformation agenda for Akwa Ibom.

“The Governor oversees everything that goes on in the state as far as the COVID-19 -pandemic is concern,little wonder the Director General of Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, commended the Governor for making the state a reference point in the fight against the corona pandemic,” he posit.

Ekuwem said Emmanuel has put in place enough facilities to ensure that no life of Akwa Ibom Ibom person and resident is lost on account of the pandemic. According to him the Isolation Centre, the PCR Laboratory, Emergency Operations Centre are some of the initiatives of Governor Emmanuel administration to contain the spread of the virus in the state.

He commended the company for its developmental strides in Mbo and called on it management to partner the State Ministry of Health for logistic support when it is set to carry out its planned free medical outreach in the area.

In his remark, the Chairman of Mbo local government area, Asukwo Eyo  lauded the firm for  reaching out to its host communities with the items. “We are happy and we appreciate Oriental Energy for the donations.  We have seen the facilities that have been put in place in Mbo. They have touched human lives in many ways by their programmes. We therefore commend the company for a well done job. The people of Mbo are happy with this gesture.”

Present at the presentation were the Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Ini Ememobong, Health Commissioner, Prof Augustine Umoh and chairman of Mbo, Asukwo Eyo.
