CRDecides : Federal and state constituencies rerun elections in Cross River
The candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the Akamkpa/ Biase Federal Constituency, Honorable Emil Inyang has emerged winner of the rerun elections in the constituency.
Inyang pulled a total of 15,930 votes to defeat his closest contender Igwe Augustin Aidam of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 12, 417 votes to come second.
The Saturday, February 3rd, 2024 polls were held across some affected polling units in the constituency, and the result collated and announced late hours on Saturday.
Announcing the results, the returning officer, Joshua Umoh, declared, “I am the returning officer for the 2024 Akamkpa Biase Federal Constituency rerun election held February 3rd, 2024. The election was contested. The candidates received the following votes;
Aidam Augustine….. AA: 37
Adem Adem….. ADC: 255
Inyang Emil -APC: 15, 930
John Dennis….APM: 101
Esu Ejemot William….. LP: 6, 410
Emmanuel Inyang…..NNPP: 165
Igwe Augustin Aidam…..PDP: 12, 417
PRP: 58
SDP: 19
YPP: 51
He proceeded: “That Inyang Emile of APC has certified the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
Also, Ashakia Pius Ashas of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP was declared winner of the Obanliku State Constituency re-run elections.
He polled 275 in the two polling units the Court ordered re-run to take his total tally to 10,587 votes.
Sunday Achunekang of the All Progressives Congress, who had challenged Ashakia’s election in 2023 polled 243 votes to take his total tally to 10,427 which is 160 lesser than Mr. Ashakia.
The remaining Seven candidates polled a combined 64 votes only.
Ashakia was subsequently declared winner by the Returning Officer, Dr. Blessing Anyalebechi.
