CROSIEC fixes May 24, 2023 for local government election in Cross River
The Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission – CROSIEC – has announced that it will conduct Local Council Elections by May 2023.
The electoral umpire has issued a notice of election for the 2023 Local Government Councils election in the state. Accordingly, all electoral activities are to commence from now culminating on Wednesday 24th May 2023 as the actual date of the exercise in the state.
This information was made known to newsmen in a notification with reference number CROSIEC/2023/LGB/007 and signed by its’ Chairman, Mr. Mike Ushie was released to journalists Monday in Calabar. This is in compliance with the provisions of section 28 (1) of the 2022 Electoral Act as amended that allow 360 days for the issuance of notice marking the commencement, preparation, conduct, and conclusion of electoral activities.
By this notice according to the electoral body, all political parties and stakeholders are required to take note and facilitate the exercise towards achieving a free, fair, and credible Local Government Council election in the state.
