Cross River 2023: SDP State Assembly candidate denies stepping down

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) Calabar Municipal Council State Constituency candidate in Cross River State, Mr. Francis Efanga Edet has debunked claims by a major political party candidate that he has stepped down for him in the 2023 general elections.

Edet disclosed this to newsmen in Calabar on Saturday, January 28, 2023, while reacting to the rumour and said that since the SDP Presidential flag bearer, Adewole Adebayo, has ruled out alliance with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties ahead of the February polls, he is not expected to do otherwise.

He described the said candidate as desperate and failing to show the electorates his manifesto in order to brighten his chances at the poll rather than building castles in the air during his campaigns.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FRANTEX Petroleum Ltd, an upstream Oil, and gas firm with headquarters in Lagos whose campaign is hinged on the mantra ‘ACCORD 2022’ meaning A-Action, C-Control, R-Rescue and D-Deliver used the occasion to call on relevant stakeholders to address the lingering fuel scarcity and review the duration of the new design naira swap which has caused hardship on the citizens.

The former chapter chairman of the SDP in Calabar Municipal Council Area berated some political party gladiators who are engaging in the practice of vote buying and hate speech during campaign tours capable of overheating the polity.

Mr. Edet is contesting against the incumbent member representing Calabar Municipal State Constituency in Cross River State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Efa Esua of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Mr. Stanley Boyce Nsemo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) among other party candidates in the 2023 general elections.
