Cross River Chapter of NMA Begins Strike over Kidnap of Colleague

The Cross River State Chapter of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), has called out doctors in the public and private hospitals in the State to proceed on indefinite strike.

The incidence which occurred on Saturday in Calabar according to a reliable source, involved one Dr Vivian Otu who is a Senior Registrar in Pediatrics Department, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar. But the association says the strike will continue until the release of their colleague while calling for improvement in the security situation in the state.

In an exclusive telephone conversation today with a high profile official of the Nigeria Medical Association in Cross River State, Dr. Innocent Abang, The Lens was informed that the strike will remain in place until Dr. Otu is released.

Meanwhile, the association official said they are in touch and being assisted by some relevant security agencies in the state, hinting that they are negotiating at the moment with the kidnappers to secure her release.
