Cross River environment commissioner frowns at defiance of residents during sanitation

Cross-River State commissioner for environment Hon. Moses Osogi has condemned the nonchalant attitude of residents of Calabar and its environs over the last Saturday’s state-wide environmental sanitation exercise on October 26th 2024.

He disclosed this while reacting to the way people move around giving the impression that a clean and green environment means nothing to them.

Hon. Osogi who doubles as Deputy Chairman of Nigeria’s Environment Commissioners while fielding questions from journalists during his routine inspection of the event in and outside Calabar metropolis, disclosed that though there is a high level of compliance by some persons who have keyed into the vision of Governor Bassey Otu, much still need to be done to actualize the purpose of the monthly environmental exercise.

He used the occasion to appeal to defaulters to stop loitering around or playing football on the streets during the exercise instead of engaging in internal and personal cleaning during the period to avoid being arrested by law enforcement agents monitoring the project stressing that no defaulter will be spared no matter who is involved.

Quizzed on his take about the November 2nd 2024 local government elections as a prominent indigene of Abi Local Government Area, he said he supports the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates, like Mr. Egbala Bassey to emerge as the next Executive Chairman of Abi Local Government Area. He called for a free, fair and credible elections to be conducted by the Cross-River State Independent Electoral Commission CROSIEC chaired by Dr. Ekong Boco.
