Cross River environment commissioner mutes relocation of LEMNA dump site, assures residents of government’s quick intervention
In a reaction to the news broadcast on Hit 95. 9 FM, a popular private radio station in Calabar on Tuesday June 18th about the complain of LEMNA residents of the need for the Cross River State government to relocate the dump site to another area owing to the health hazards people are exposed to after inhaling offensive odors from the garbage, Hon. Moses Osogi, the State Commissioner of Environment has informed residents of government’s plan to implement laid down efforts to address their suffering.
Hon. Osogi disclosed this in a chart with LENS Reporter, Wednesday June 19th, saying that Senator Bassey Out’s ‘people first’ mantra administration aims to provide permanent solution to the problem after conducting Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) for a suitable relocation of the dump site leveraging on modern technology is in the pipe- line already.
The Deputy Chairman of Nigerian Commissioner for Environment Forum elected at the 17th meeting of the National Council on Environment (NCE), has described the work synergy between the ministry of Environment and Heads of Urban Development Authorities in the three Senatorial districts as cordial to protect the environment.
He sought for cooperation among stakeholders to ameliorate the ecology crises in the South – South region of the country and urged Cross Riverians to remain dedicated to Senator Bassey Otu’s vision to make Calabar, the State Capital reclaim her position as the cleanest city and nations tourism destination, complying with the monthly environment sanitation exercises. He promised to evacuate the refuse heap at Marian market by former Ecobank in response to traders outcry.
